Board of Directors

The board of directors comprise 9 people and is headed by Mr John Onen since 2017 until now. Their roles and responsibilities include:

  • Governing the organization by establishing broad policies and setting out strategic objectives.

  • Selecting, appointing, supporting, and reviewing the performance of the management committee including President, Secretary and Treasurer

  • Termination of management committee

  • Approving annual budgets and ensuring the availability of adequate financial resources.

  • Setting the salaries, compensation, and benefits of senior management.

Organisation chairperson - Ms Jane Achayo

She was elected in 2012 to the position of chairperson role and then re-elected every two years up to now. Her main responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership to the organisation

  • Ensuring the Management Committee functions properly

  • Ensuring the organisation is managed efficiently and effectively.

  • Providing support and supervision to the organisation management committee

  • Representing the organisation as its figurehead

Organisation secretary - Joice Onek

Ensuring meetings are effectively organised and minuted

  • Liaising with the Chair to plan meetings

  • Receiving agenda items from committee members

  • Circulating agendas and reports

  • Circulating approved minutes

  • Checking that agreed actions are carried out.

Communication and correspondence

  • Responding to all committee correspondence

  • filing all committee correspondence received and copies of replies sent

  • keeping a record of any of the organisation's publications

  • reporting the activities of the organisation and future programmes to members, the press and the public

  • Preparing a report of the organisation's activities for the year, for the Annual General Meeting.

Maintaining effective records and administration

  • Keeping up-to-date contact details for the management committee and ordinary members of the organisation.

  • Filing minutes and reports

  • Compiling lists of names and addresses that are useful to the organisation, including those of appropriate officials or officers of voluntary organisations.

  • Keeping a record of the organisation's activities

  • Keeping a diary of future activities

Upholding legal requirements

  • Acting as custodian of the organisation's governance documents

  • Checking quorum is present at meetings

  • Ensuring elections are in line with stipulated procedures

  • Ensuring organisation's activities are in line with its objects

  • Sitting on appraisal, recruitment, and disciplinary panels, as required.

Organisation Treasurer - Sisto Daniel

General financial oversight

  • Oversee and present budgets, accounts, and financial statements to the management committee

  • Liaise with designated staff about financial matters

  • Ensure that appropriate financial systems and controls are in place

  • Ensure that record-keeping and accounts meet the conditions of funders or statutory bodies

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

 

Financial planning and budgeting

  • Prepare and present budgets for new or ongoing work

  • Advise on financial implications of strategic and operational plans

  • Present revised financial forecasts based on actual spend.

  • Ensure effective monitoring and reporting

 

Financial reporting

  • Present regular reports on the organisation's financial position

  • Prepare accounts for audit and liaising with the auditor, as required

  • Present accounts at the AGM

  • Advise on the organisation's reserves and investment policy.

Funding, fundraising, and sales

  • Advise on the organisation's fundraising strategy

  • Ensure use of funds complies with conditions set by funding bodies

  • Ensure fundraising and sales complies with relevant legislation and is bound by effective financial systems and controls

  • Ensure effective monitoring and reporting

 

Banking, book-keeping, and record-keeping

  • Manage bank accounts

  • Set up appropriate systems for book-keeping, payments, lodgements & petty cash

  • Ensure everyone handling money keeps proper records and documentation

 

Control of fixed assets

  • Ensure proper records are kept

  • Ensure required insurances are in place

Project officer - Richard Oyet

He was appointed in the position of project officer since 2012 until now. The roles and responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring processes and protocols are in place for compliance with all relevant legislation and ensure that risks are being managed.

  • Identifying assets and capacities within communities.

  • Recruiting and training paid and voluntary staff.

  • Making funding applications for the organisation.

  • Acting as a facilitator to promote self-help in the community.

  • Coordinating the delivery of services that contribute to improved outcomes for the community.

  • Engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders to foster and sustain partnerships.

  • Report writing, working with boards, advisory groups, and committees.

  • Assist with the monitoring of key project deliverables and key resource condition changes throughout the life of projects.

  • Develop and lead partnerships with the not for profit, private and government sectors to encourage and support new opportunities and solve local problems

  • Assist communities to utilise their own capacities and support systems to be active participants in the community
